Flamed Bluestone - Low Maintenance Outdoor Paving
This outdoor paving product is dark grey in colour with some brownish twinges (see images above) and doesn't show dirt. It has low water absorption properties so the risk of staining is low. It has has high flexural strength which shows it Is tough and it has good traction when wet so it is safe with a low risk of slipping.
It is also a preferred outdoor surface for many commercial projects such as Bar 100 Brasserie at the Rocks in Sydney (see image below, right).
Stone Quality Ratings
The stone quality ratings at the foot of this page are based on objective test results; they are presented in a simple 1 - 5 star format to make interpretation easy.
As you will see, Bellambi bluestone is a star performer.
Pavers or Tiles - What is the Difference?
The difference is the thickness!
Tiles are thin - usually
12-15mm; they are designed to be fixed to a hard substrate e.g.
concrete or compressed fibro.
Pavers on the other hand are much thicker - typically 30mm. There
is twice as much stone in a paver and that gives them enormous
strength but it also increases the cost.
The extra strength
enables them to be used on softer substrates e.g. packed earth or
road base topped with sand.
If you are intending to "pave" outdoor areas that have been concreted, there is no need to use "pavers", the thinner tiles will usually be quite adequate for normal foot traffic and save a lot of money.
Make an enquirySealing Flamed Bluestone
The salt in salt water pools is very corrosive. Our bluestone is a very dense stone with remarkably good resistance to salt attack. Despite this, we strongly suggest sealing the stone with a penetrating sealer (eg Sealer's Choice Gold) BEFORE the pool is filled.
This will help prevent any rust coloured disclouration caused by inundation from the salt water.
Traditionally chlorinated pools are not as threatening as salt water pools but sealing is still recommended as a cheap way of preserving stone quality.

- Resistance to salt attack classification (AS/NZS 4456.10) - A (suitable for wet, dry & salt attack cycles)
- Resistance to salt attack classification (AS/NZS 4456.10) - A (suitable for wet, dry & salt attack cycles)
- Resistance to salt attack (AS/NZS 4456.10) mode of decay - very slight surface pitting
NB The benchmarks for use of stone around salt water pools is 0.1% weight loss or less with a minimum slip resistance classification of W.
