Ming Bluestone - Flamed Tiles & Pavers
Ming Bluestone Characteristics
Ming bluestone is a new product. It is similar to our Bellambi bluestone but has a gun barrel blue hue rather than the brownish grey tones observable in flamed Bellambi that is evident in the photo - below right. The structure and strength of the product is as good if not better than Bellambi - quite a feat since Bellambi test results are just wonderful. We think Ming will take off like a rocket - it is beautiful material.
Flamed Bluestone - Low Maintenance Outdoor Paving
This outdoor paving product is dark grey in colour with some blueish tinges (see image below right) and doesn't show dirt. It has low water absorption properties so the risk of staining is low. It has has high flexural strength which shows it Is tough and it has good traction when wet so it is safe with a low risk of slipping.
Pavers or Tiles - What is the Difference?
The difference is the thickness. Tiles are thin - usually 12-15mm; they are designed to be fixed to a hard substrate eg concrete or compressed fibro. Pavers on the other hand are much thicker - typically 30mm. There is twice as much stone in a paver and that gives them enormous strength but it also increases the cost. The extra strength enables them to be used on softer substrates eg packed earth or roadbase topped with sand.
If you are intending to "pave" outdoor areas that have been concreted, there is no need to use "pavers", the thinner tiles will usually be quite adequate and save a lot of money.
Make an enquirySealing Flamed Bluestone
The salt in salt water pools is very corrosive. Our bluestone is a very dense stone with remarkably good resistance to salt attack. Despite this, we strongly suggest sealing the stone with a penetrating sealer (eg Ultra Solv or Sealer's Choice Gold) BEFORE the pool is filled.
This will help prevent any rust coloured disclouration caused by inundation from the salt water. Traditionally chlorinated pools are not as threatening as salt water pools but sealing is still recommended as a cheap way of preserving stone quality
