Simena Limestone - Characteristics
This is one of two very light coloured limestones from the same quarry that have been sorted on colour, character and pattern.
The Simena has the most character and is the staff favourite; it has lots of straw coloured squiggles with the occasional larger motif.
The background is white to off-white or straw. The colour in photos varies depending on the light. For instance, the colour of the floor in the image on the right is lighter than is depicted in the photo.
The kitchen and dining area is located at the back of a harbourside unit at Rozelle. The owners specifically wanted a light floor tile to lighten the area because it receives less light than any other part of the unit.
Apartment Foyer - Sydney CBD
The image on the right was taken in a CBD apartment; the foyer was a dark, uninspiring area so the interior designer had the carpet removed and specified Simena limestone for the floor. The 7.5 square metre space was tiled, grouted and sealed in in one day - one long day!
Prior to the limestone being laid, the owners were considering the installation of a skylight on this top floor apartment. The limestone has lightened and freshened the area so impressively, the skylight was no longer required - the entrance was now light enough.
The foyer is now very modern with clean lines that provide a spacious look despite the modest area. The owners were delighted with the result.
Limestone is Porous - Sealing Required
Limestone is one of the finest and most porous stones; the light colour of this limestone makes it easy to mark too, so it does require sealing to prevent stains. Do not let grubby hands touch this stone until it has been sealed.
We suggest that the first application of sealant is applied before the tiles are grouted. This will make the post-grouting cleaning easier.
Two light coats of Sealers Choice Gold would be an excellent option. Do a test with a spoon full of water to check that the water beads on the surface; if in doubt, apply a 3rd coat just to make sure.
Remember, the 1st coat of sealant will be absorbed the quickest; subsequent coats will require less and less sealant. Three light coats might seem excessive but it is a much better option than 2 heavy coats.
Limestone - Indoor Floors, Sunrooms & Verandahs
This is a fine grained limestone that is very light in colour. It is best suited to indoor floor applications because it will reflect light and could be glary despite being cool under foot.
Once laid, Simena will create an air of formality; it is a stone that will work well in sunrooms, enclosed verandahs and hallways.
It is a great stone to liven up dark spaces and the light colour makes it attractive to interior design that favours strong fabric colours in curtains, blinds and soft furnishings.
Hotel Foyer - Limestone & Sofala Quartzite
Simena limestone has been used on the floor of an impressive hotel lobby as seen in the image on the right.
If you look closely you will notice that the designers have used Sofala quartzite stackstone on the pillars that blends beautifully with the timber panelling above.
Simena Limestone Floor
The image below is a close-up image of the floor in the apartment above.
A close inspection will reveal some beautiful squiggly motifs through the stone that give the surface a unique character that can only come from natural stone. These are barely visible from the photo.
The background has a lovely soft off-white and straw colours with very faint tints of light strawberry.
Please note that limestone is very difficult to photograph as it takes on colour from the surrounding walls, soft furnishings and lighting. Though this makes photography a little challenging, it is one of the reasons why limestone is such a unique indoor surface.

Simena Limestone
This extremely light coloured limestone is extremely hard to photograph so please accept our apologies. There is a pink tinge to these /images that do not exist in real life.
There is some nice variation between tiles that will create character in a floor but the overall effect will be subtle as you may be able to see from the image below.
