Indoors or Outside - Bluestone Tiles Look Stunning
Bluestone is a very versatile stone and readily takes a number of finishes to suit the needs of the project e.g. honed, flamed or polished. Flamed and natural cut surfaces are preferred around outdoor areas and pool surrounds (see photo above) where risk of slipping may be a concern. Polished surfaces (photo 3rd from left) are preferred on internal floors (and walls) where trolleys, strollers and wheelchairs are used and where a floor with low maintenance requirements is important.
Different Surface Finishes for Different Purposes
Bluestone is a dense, hard, dark coloured, fine grained igneous rock that is very versatile. The colour ranges from black to a dark grey depending on its finish. The stone also has remarkable depth - a hallmark of quality.
The density of the material allows many different finishes. In polished form Bellambi shines like a mirror - an appealing choice for office foyers and commercial fit-outs. The honed surface is dark grey/black in colour with a velvet appearance suited to indoor wall and flooring - it is a stunning product. The flamed surface finish (pictured abovearound a pool) has a soft leathery character ideal for outside use where traction and safety are important.
Bluestone in natural split form make beautiful cobbles for use on driveways and paths. They are very strong and the splitface finish creates good traction. The dark grey/black colour is very practical as it shows no dirt or rubber tyre marks.
