Quartzite - Spectacular Durability & Versatility
Quartzite is tough, dense and incredibly durable building and landscaping material that has an unmistakable decorative quality and beauty.
Test results indicate our quartzite to have high flexural strength, high density and extremely low rates of water absorption; it is also extremely resistance to salt attack. Tests reveal that a 400x200x12mm sample will have breaking load properties that exceed 2 kN - making them very suitable for paving in residential pedestrian applications.
Quartzite is equally popular as an indoor surface in higher traffic areas because of its low maintenance requirements and toughness.
"Impossible to Stain" - Spills Wipe Off Easily
Stains can always be a problem but "not even coke stained this floor and coffee just wipes off leaving no marks". Quartzite floors get dirty but you don't notice it - the grey colour "disguises dirt beautifully". This make cleaning and maintenance less stressful.
Hard Stone - Soft Environmental Footprint
Quartzite is as it comes from the earth - completely natural. Other than cutting the sides and grinding the base of each tile and paver, there is no manufacturing process. The stone is untreated with any form of chemical.
Our quartzite is so hard that it wears out diamond tipped cutting wheels quickly. It is one of the hardest stones which is a blessing because it can handle high traffic areas easily. It does not need sealers though sometimes they are applied (e.g. food areas) just to make cleaning a little easier.
Extensive Product Range - Tiles, Pavers, Coping & Mosaics
Bellstones quartzite range has two types: Sofala and Grey Gum; both are available in body tiles, pavers, netted random pattern sheets, cladding, stackstone and mosaics. Test results have been conducted (they are published under each product category to ensure compliance with Australian standards.
Quartzite - Safe in Wet Areas
Quartzite has been highly metamorphosed imbuing it with unparalleled durability making it a prized material for difficult installations where exposure to water may a challenge and possible source of risk.
These characteristics make it eminently suitable for any surface that may get wet from time to time. It is therefore an obvious option for veneer work, swimming pool aprons, water features and garden paths. Test results for resistance to salt attack indicate the suitability of these products for the hostile chemical environment of salt water pools.
CSIRO wet pendulum slip tests reveal a surface that has good grip characteristics with a low risk of slipping on a wet surface. These characteristics make the stone very safe for young children who run with abandon; it is also a stone well suited to pathways for the elderly who are more prone to slipping and falling.
Low Maintenance - Nothing Tougher Than Quartzite
Quartzite is made up of grains of quartz - one of the hardest minerals (Mohs scale 7), cemented together by silica that give it a reflective quality. The colours range between a blend of light and dark grey through to orange and rust hues. When held to the light, the tiles can sparkle with silver flecks as the light bounces off the quartz particles.
Large format quartzite veneer is available upon request. Stainless steel anchors for cladding walls over 2 metres in height and 35kg per sq metre in weight are also available ex warehouse.
