Trinity Slate - A Heritage Alternative
Trinity slates are so named in Australia because they are quarried near Trinity Bay in Newfoundland, Canada. They are a Cambrian slate similar in colour to Welsh Penrhyn and of the same geological era; detailed analysis indicates there are also similarities in their chemical and mechanical profiles.
The standard slates are 508x254mm in size and 4 6mm in thickness. Officially they are described as heather in colour and are a purple slate with a slight reddish or plum hue. They have been used widely in for roof restoration work on heritage buildings over the last 10-15 years and are performing exceptionally well. Photographs of buildings with trinity slate roofs can be seen in Case Studies - Slate Roof Heritage section.
QA Standards
The slate complies with the following standards:
- British Standards BS 680: Part 2
- Norme Francaise P32-301
- ASTM C406-06 - S1 service life 75+ years
