Glendyne Roofing Slate
"Glendynes are top quality slates. They are square and uniform with a pleasing smooth finish. They lie beautifully flat on a roof with no visible flaws. We've used Glendynes on 4 of the last 5 projects - they're very populafor a good reason" - Heath Westwood, Westwood Roofing Pty Ltd.
Glendyne Quarry - Most Modern in the World
The Glendyne Inc slate quarry is located at St-Marc-du-Lac-Long in the province of Quebec, Canada. It is one of the world's most impressively managed roofing slate quarries with a wonderfully effective quality management system. They adopt a very strict OH&S policy to protect their workers and their ultra-strong packing crates are manufactured on the property from timber cut in the surrounding forest.
The slate was formed in the Devonian era (350-400 million years ago) and is of high quality with no recorded pyrite or other metallic intrusion.
The slate is dark, charcoal grey with overtones of blue. The slate is new to Australia but they have been selling shiploads of it to Europe and the UK where it has been used for many years without any recorded problems. Photographs of homes with Glendyne slate roofs appear in the Case Studies - Contemporary Roof section
