Willow Sandstone (Honed) Tiles, Stone Pavers - Cutting Edge Popularity
Stone tiles and pavers are the rage because they are completely natural, unprocessed and untreated with any spurious chemical. There is nothing more natural than sandstone - its where our beaches came from.
The Willow sandstone range is our most popular sandstone because of its beautiful variation in light, cool summery colours as you can see in the images below. This is the lightest coloured sandstone on the market.
Make an enquiryWillow Sandstone a Himalayan Stone?
Himalayan stone or Himalayan sandstone is product that is sourced from India. There are hundreds of different sandstones types and qualities that are produced from this remarkable country and our willow is one of these. The variation in colour and durability of 'Himalayan stone" is enormous.
Sandstone Stairs - Popular & practical
Honed Willow step treads are popular for use on stairs. It is the lightest and most durable sandstone on the market and the treads have a soft, rounded bullnose edge that doesn't catch on shoes or feet. The honed surface is quite smooth to touch when dry but becomes surprisingly grippy when wet. Safety is an important factor to consider with stair surfaces. Slip tests should be used as a guide; these are published at the foot of the page.

Willow Sandstone Step Treads
The beautiful step treads in the images above can come in upto 2m lengths and are one of our most popular products. They are easy to damage in transit, so we pack them very carefully as you can see below.
They have an impressive silken honed finish when dry but in rain or when wet they surprise everyone with a grippy, safe surface to walk on.

Pavers & Tiles - Definition Confusion
Most people associate pavers with outdoor use. Pavers are regarded as products to be used over soft bases (substrates) such as rammed earth or roadbase sprinkled with sand. On these foundations the stone used needs to be strong to ensure against movement that might cause cracking. As a result, the thickness of the stone needs to be 30mm or more, depending on the traffic load.
These days, outside areas are often concreted providing an incredibly strong and very stable substrate. As a result, a much thinner "tile" of 10 - 15mm might be quite adequate (depending on the flexural strength of the stone and the traffic load expected). Apart from the thickness of the stone and the cost (tiles are cheaper!) there is no difference between a tile and a paver!
Honed Willow Sandstone - Impressive Stone Quality
The stone products below are selected for quality - you only have to look at the stone quality ratings at the foot of this page to realise it is one of the best on the market.
Willow Sandstone - Colour Sorted
Our Willow range of sandstone has been colour sorted by our supplier in India; this has been done to remove the unpopular green and brown colours that are characteristic of standard lines of Indian or "Himalayan sandstone".
There is a lot more effort and a little extra cost involved but our customers tell us "its worth it" because rogue pieces get eliminated before they arrive in Australia.

Contemplating Using Sandstone Around a Saltwater Pool?
If the answer is yes, then you need to read "When Good Stone Turns Bad" because there are risks involved and this article will help you achieve a successful outcome.
Alternatively, check out magnesium salt pools or Google magnapools - they are more like a mineral spring water and far less corrosive than sodium chloride / hypochlorite (salt water) pools.
