Pink Autumn Slate Tiles for Floors & Walls

The floor in the images above was sealed with Sealer's Choice Gold; this has left the slate surface with it's natural colour. Traditionally, slate floors were sealed with topical (surface) sealants that enhanced colour and created a gloss finish. More recently there has been a trend toward penetrating sealants that have little or no effect on colour. The "natural look" is the preferred look these days.
Pink Autumn Floor Slate - Characteristics
Colours range from off white, grey, pastel to dark pink as you can see in the photo of the living room on the right.
This is a softer slate than most and the surface may be flakey so sealing is necessary.
It is not a slate that is suitable for wet areas e.g. shower areas or uncovered outside areas, unless sealed and properly maintained.
Pink Autumn is best suited for internal areas on any hard surface.

Slate Flooring - Natural, Firesafe & Eco Friendly
A measure of the environmental credentials of a building product is the involvement by man and process up to the point where it is fixed to a building. On that basis this slate is a clear winner.
This slate has a natural split surface which means it is split along natural cleavage lines and does not require expensive, energy demanding, processing machinery to saw it. However, It does mean the thickness of the material varies a bit - naturally!
Slate Tiles - Colour & Texture Enhanced with Natural Split Surface
Slate splits naturally along planes revealing pallets of vivid colour not seen in stone with processed surfaces.
The topography of the surface is intricate and has character, depth and grain - as you will see in the image below.
Flakes of slate that are occasionally seen are evidence that the stone is high enough quality to split naturally and that it is genuinely slate.
The flakes if present, are easily removed as explained in the FAQ section.
Seal It or Leave Natural?
We have customers that have bought slate from us for over 20 years and nearly all (99%) seal their floors for these reasons:
(1) Surface or topical sealers enhance the natural colours of the slate
(2) surface or topical sealers applied to a natural split surface make cleaning easier
(3) Sealants (both penetrating & topical) protect the slate from oil and grease stains especially around food preparation areas. Unless these are wiped up quickly, they will leave marks on an unsealed surface.
(4) Slate can get dusty; minute particles may detach from the slate surface and can leave a fine film of dust over the surface. Sealants prevent this from happening.
There are 4 possible options that we can recommend for you to consider depending on the type of surface finish you like best. These are explained in detail in our sealers page.
