African Mazista Silver Blue Floor Slate - Characteristics  Silver Blue Kitchen

This hard, black flooring slate has silver shimmering highlights with overtones of blue – a colour quite rare in slate. As you can observe from images of the display pieces lower down on this page, the slate has silver swirls across the surface.

It also has splashes of colour visible on around 5% of tiles - mostly yellow but sometimes orange or even crimson. There is a tile in the lower right of the image top right that illustrates this.

It is natural split on both sides so there is a choice of surface depending on which side has the preferred colour and texture.

It is suitable for all internal & external areas on any hard surface - sealed or unsealed. It can be used on both walls and floors.

Slate Tiles - No Building Product More Natural & Less Processed  Silver Blue Kitchen

A measure of the environmental credentials of a building product is the involvement by man and process up to the point where it is fixed to a building. On that basis this slate is a clear winner.

This slate has a natural split surface which means it is split along natural cleavage lines and does not require expensive, energy demanding, processing machinery to saw it.

However, It does mean the thickness of the material varies a bit - naturally!

Slate - Ideal Wall Cladding

This slate like many other types of slate are frequently used as wall cladding as you can see from the image of an office clad in Silver Blue at the top of the page. Slate is a very inexpensive way to clad a wall.

Slate Colours & Texture Enhanced with Natural Split Surface

Slate splits naturally along planes reveals pallets of vivid colour not seen in stone with processed surfaces. The topography of the surface is intricate and has character, depth and grain - as you will see in the image below.

Flakes of slate that are occasionally seen are evidence that the stone is high enough quality to split naturally and that it is genuinely slate. The flakes if present, are easily removed prior to laying as explained in the FAQ section.

Sealing Options  Silver Blue Patio

The images of the indoor floors (above) have been sealed with surface sealers that enhance the colour and leave the surface with a gloss or semi-gloss finish.

The outdoor patio surface in the image on the right has not been sealed.

There are a number of  sealer options available that maintain the natural finish of the slate - these are becoming more popular since sealant technology has improved so much in recent years.
