Stone Specifications - Stone Tiles, Pavers, Coping & Cladding for Floors & Walls

All our natural stone product specifications appear in the tables below. Stone "pavers" are defined by their thickness - usually 30mm + whereas stone "tiles" are typically 8 - 15mm in thickness.

Thye thickness description of all natural stone products is "nominal" which means there is variation around the value.

Data in the tables below are updated on a weekly basis. When ordering product, please make sure the correct name and specification is used to avoid delays or costly problems.

All products have sawn edges unless stated.

Abbreviations

Natural split
Cleaved along the grain resulting in product with variable thickness & surface texture

Calibrated
Material that has been machined to achieve consistent thickness usually + or - 1mm, but not always. Unless stated, all our products have been calibrated to a nominal thickness.

Ground
Material that has been worked to achieve more uniform thickness but not calibrated to a nominal thickness. This term particularly applies to our marble/quartzite which is very hard on machinery and expensive to calibrate.

Honed
Indicates material with a surface that has been buffed to a smooth finish

Exfoliated
Physical abrasion of stone surface to achieve better traction

Flamed
Heat treatment of stone surface to achieve better traction

­Tumbled
 A weathered or aged appearance to the surface of stone created by mechanically tumbling the stone with sand or small pebbles

Unfilled (U/F)
The term applies to travertine with a surface whose holes have been left in the natural state and not factory filled

Covered metre (cov.m2)
Random pattern tiles that are on sheets have predetermined grout joints, so we sell them on a "covered metre" basis. Our other products are sold on a price per piece basis which means that if you buy a square metre (m2) of product it will actually cover more than a metre once the area consumed by grout joints are accounted for.

This method of selling is not universally practised; we do because it provides the best outcome for our customers.
