FINDING THE RIGHT STONE TILE FOR YOUR FLOOR

When it comes to flooring materials, natural stone is a popular choice. Stone tile is durable and brings natural colours and textures into a home. Best of all, it’s available in a great range of materials and styles to suit your tastes.

Slate

Slate is an excellent choice for a lot of applications. This metamorphic rock will split into sheets easily and can then be turned into tiles. Slate often tends to have a dark hue and can contain a mix of colours. Of all stone types, slate requires the least maintenance because it is so hard and dense. The dark colour means stains and dirt are not as visible as they might be on paler stone.

Travertine

This material is similar to limestone but is much more dense with lower porosity which means it has significantly lower water absorption rates. It is also stronger as measured by flexural strength which gives the stone impressive durability. It is near impossible to make travertine stone shine, but its matte finish provides a very warm, aged look that will do wonders for your home.

Marble

Marble looks majestic and regal, but it can be prone to staining. If you decide to go with a marble floor, it’s a good idea to get it professionally sealed to prevent damage occurring to the finish.
