Slate Roof Battens - Oregon Lasts Longer!

Oregon is the timber of choice for use as battens under slate roofs. While pine may be popular for many short lived roofs it is essential that the timber used under slate has the ability to match its lifespan. Oregon is popular for two other reasons – it is soft so it is easy to drive nails into and it rarely splits. Battens should be a minimum of 50x25mm thick for 450mm rafter spacings and 500x38mm if rafters are spaced 600mm apart.
